    Bob’s Stores to shutter remaining locations after bankruptcy filing

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Bob’s Stores is officially going out of business.

    The discount clothing and shoe retailer announced Monday that it will be closing all of its stores by July 14, and that liquidation sales are already underway.

    Bob’s Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month after failing to secure the finances needed to maintain operations, according to court documents .

    “We regret that our financial position necessitated the liquidation of Bob’s Stores,” Bob’s Stores President Dave Barton said. “Bob’s has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives.”

    Bob’s Stores is offering discounts of between 30% and 70% off of regular retail prices. No returns will be accepted, however, Bob’s Stores will allow shoppers to use gift cards and make exchanges up until the retailer’s last day of business.

    There are currently 21 Bob’s Stores spanning six states, including Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

    The only store in Rhode Island is located off of Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston. There are six Bob’s Stores in Massachusetts, with the closest to Rhode Island being in Attleboro.

    The first Bob’s Stores opened under the name “Bob’s Surplus” back in 1954. The Connecticut-based retailer sells affordable shoes, workwear, sports wear and everyday clothing.
