One year later: No arrests in the tragic shooting of toddler
NEW BERN, Craven County — It's been a year since 19-month-old Nia'Loni Sheptock was killed in New Bern, and police say no arrests have been made yet. On July 4th, 2023, Nia'Loni Sheptock was with her father, Nathan Sheptock, in a vehicle when they were shot at. Nathan was treated and released from the hospital, but Nia'Loni didn't make it. A year later, not a single suspect has been taken away in handcuffs.
New Bern's Christmas in July festival and gala set for July 13 at Maola Riverside
NEW BERN, Craven County — Its' Christmas! Ok, well officially no but for New Bern residents it is in July. New Bern Christmas in July announced that they will be having a festival and gala on Saturday, July 13 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. and will feature vendors, food trucks, raffle prizes, arts and live music. There will also be a live appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus for children and all to enjoy. They will also partner with other nonprofits to obtain food, toys, clothing and donations. Closing the evening will be the Summer Wonderland Gala from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. with local artists, a silent auction and live performances. These proceeds will also go to nonprofit partners.
Craven County Sheriff's Office searching for runaway teen
Craven County officials are seeking the public's help in finding a 17-year-old runaway last seen on Saturday, June 29. Michael Smith is described as a male with black hair, standing at 5'9" tall and weighs around 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing light blue/grey jeans with a black hoodie with red lettering leaving the area of West Thurman Road in New Bern around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

The Craven County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individuals who are wanted for questioning regarding an armed robbery. The robbery took place at 7065 US Hwy 17 N in Vanceboro, NC. The individuals were last seen in the Vanceboro area, operating a white 2013 Acura ILX.
