Unreal Engine and Unity are "the best training tools that I could possibly imagine," says Dune's cinematographer
Even with the dominance of digital photography, there is still a push to reflect the grounded philosophy from the film era – though this traditional approach is changing as several generations have grown up with a video game console in their hands, and smartphones have led to the global proliferation of cameras.
Microsoft's 'AI PCs' sound like a potential privacy disaster
Microsoft announced the new Surface Pro 11th generation and Surface Laptop 7th generation this week. But the launch was a little different from the usual announcement of iterative updates. The tech giant sought to rebrand its Surface line, dubbing the new models 'Copilot+ PCs' after its AI chatbot. Naturally, people...
Spotify's new font means a new logo too
Font design is a challenge for many brands, and especially for one like Spotify. How to you create bespoke font designs for a brand whose product encompasses every genre and era in music history? After poring over old music posters and album art, designers were unable to settle on one single style to capture the brand's identity, so they took inspiration from music – more specifically from mashup culture.
Pro ZBrush modelling tips: step out of your comfort zone
Since 2005 I’ve been using various modelling software, which has given me a wide view of the technology’s progress. Back then I remember using SketchUp, because it still performed well despite the fact my PC had no graphics card and very little RAM. I then changed over to Cinema 4D, which had something that SketchUp didn’t in V-Ray, meaning that I was able to start rendering. Years later I switched to the combination of 3ds Max 2025 with Chaos Corona for my render engine.

An iPhone rebrand might not be as radical as it sounds
While Apple is known for the smartness of its product design, when it comes to naming conventions, things have a got a little, er, messy. Take this month, for example – with the advent of the new M4 iPad Pro, the iPad Air is now heavier and less thin than its Pro counterpart. No so airy, then. Then there's the fact that the keyboards for iPad and Mac are both called the Magic Keyboard. Then there's the fact that some years we get an 'S' model iPhone, sometimes we don't. And we also have an iPhone XR and iPhone SE, with no idea what either stands for. Chaos!
I hope the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery design rumours are true
We expect to see Apple's iPhone 16 line up unveiled in less than four months now, assuming Apple sticks to its usual release cycle. And the rumours are getting more intriguing. Last year, Apple began to differentiate the iPhone Pro Max from the standard Pro in by more than just...
