An inmate was recovered late Monday evening after escaping from the Crenshaw County Jail. Following the recovery, Crenshaw County District Judge Jon Folmar granted a Motion to Revoke Bond for the escapee, Shawn Tyler Garner.

At approximately 4:05 p.m. Crenshaw County residents received a Code Red alert about the escape of Garner, a 19-year-old white male, who left the Crenshaw County Jail at around 1:40 p.m.

“Garner was wearing orange pants and a white t-shirt. His direction of travel is currently unknown, but it is believed he may have headed toward Rutledge on foot. K-9 and air support have been deployed to assist in his capture,” the message said.

After Garner’s late-Monday capture, Assistant District Attorney for the 2nd Judicial Circuit, Levi Nichols, petitioned the court to revoke bond, a motion approved by Folmar during a hearing Tuesday.

Crenshaw County Sheriff Terry Mears commended the swift actions of his deputies in recapturing Garner, emphasizing their commitment to public safety.

“Thanks to the diligent efforts of Chief Deputy Michael Strickland and Chief Investigator Chris Stewart, the escaped inmate was swiftly recaptured,” Mears said. “I want to assure the public that their safety is always our top priority. Our team acted quickly and efficiently to resolve this situation, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Crenshaw County residents.”

Mears added that he and his department are working closely with the Crenshaw County Commission. He hopes that, with the commission’s support, they will be able to implement some updates to the Crenshaw County Detention Facility to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Garner was arrested on June 11 by Brantley Police Department Assistant Chief Drew Morgan shortly after a Maple Street shooting that left a juvenile in critical condition. According to Assistant Chief Morgan, the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute.

Garner will be held in the Crenshaw County Detention Facility without bond pending further court orders.
