It was not my intent to write a fluff piece about tourism in Crescent City. The response from visitors coming to our community is nothing short of rewarding. Crescent City and Del Norte County are truly blessed. While Summer temperatures soar into triple digits across fully two-thirds of the country, the climate along the North Coast and Oregon coastline is deliriously appealing in low to mid 60’s.

The great icebreaker question asked of visitors to Crescent City is, “ Where are you folks from? The short answer is “…just about everywhere. ”Indeed, most visitors come from Medford, Ashland, Redding and Sacramento. And dispersed across the West, mid-West, and East Coast. This year, record number of visitors are flocking to Crescent City, not just to escape the heat but to fully enjoy all of the local amenities. The number of visitors is far exceeding our greatest visitor season ever. Stunning news! Executive Director of the Crescent City / Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce Cindy Vosburg shared, “ Folks come here for the Redwoods and the Beaches. This is our opportunity to shine. We’re so fortunate to live here.”

Trees of Mystery reports an increase of eight percent from June 2023, the previous record year.

Out of towners are flocking to the Visitor Center on Front St. at a rate of 90-194 per day, seeking direction on where to go and what to do in Del Norte County. Vosburg continued, “ Folks are here to have a great time, and they are.”

Brookings, Gold Beach, Port Orford and Beaver State points northward are also enjoying the benefits of the temperate climate and magnificent geography.

The appreciation for those of who visit the North Coast is duly recognized. Lots of smiles and no shortage of Thank You comments at attractions and restaurants.

The Triplicate spoke with several of these visitors who’ve fled the enervating heat and responded to a few questions.

    • Hi, folks, Where are you from?

    • What brings you to Crescent City? How long is your visit?

    • Are you enjoying yourselves? Any favorite places?

    • Do you plan a return visit?

    • Travel mode?

    • What will you tell your friends about our seaside community.

These mini-interviews were conducted at Trees of Mystery, Ocean World, The Visitor Center, Sea Quake, Battery Point Lighthouse and South Beach.

The comments from the public were overwhelmingly favorable. Over the course of scores of interviews, there was nary a complaint… Some fled their home communities to escape the heat and humidity. Most proudly said they came here to see the Redwoods and Beaches. All said, they’re here to have a great time.

    • Zack and family from Waterbury, CN. came to Trees to experience the Redwoods. Gary and Family from south east MT, came for the trees and cool climate.

    • David and family from Yakima, WA., Justin and Family from Salt Lake City, were happy to share their recent experience at Battery Point.

    • Becky and Erin from central Illinois were visiting grandparents in Crescent City

    • Karl from Bavaria remarked how quiet and noise-free Crescent City is.

Most folks were here from 5-8 days.

We’re just getting rolling, folks. Motels, RV Parks, Vacation Rentals are very busy. Restaurants report brisk traffic with no shortage of smiles and thank you comments.

A great summer continues in Crescent City.
