Irvine police seek help identifying porch pirate caught on video stealing package
Police are searching for a porch pirate who was captured on video stealing a package from a home in Orange County.The Irvine Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a woman who was seen riding a scooter in front of a Woodbridge area home on July 10.After leaving her scooter in front of the home, the woman is seen on video snatching the package from the doorstep with a big smile on her face.Police believe she may be responsible for other thefts.Anybody who recognizes her is urged to contact Irvine police at rnigg@cityofirvine.org.
World War II sergeant whose plane was shot down over Germany honored with reburial in California
LOS ANGELES (AP) — After 80 years, a World War II sergeant killed in Germany has returned home to California. On Thursday, community members lined the roads to honor U.S. Army Air Force Tech. Sgt. Donald V. Banta as he was brought from Ontario International Airport to a burial home in Riverside, California. Banta, 21, was killed in action in early 1944 when his plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire over Gotha, Germany, according to Honoring Our Fallen, an organization that provides support to families of fallen military and first responders. One of the surviving crewmembers saw the plane was on fire, then fell in a steep dive before exploding on the ground. After the crash, German troops buried the remains of one soldier at a local cemetery, while the other six crewmembers, including Banta, were unaccounted for.
Attempted murder and assault charges for suspect in May stabbing on Two Mile Road
After a stabbing in May, a teenage suspect was arrested this week on suspicion of attempted murder. On the night of May 25, County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary in the 6600 block of Two Mile Road. A witness told deputies that several young people were yelling threats to one another. Deputies report that Rodney Frazier-Goodson, 19, stabbed one of the young people, punched him in the face, and then ran into the desert. No arrests were made that night.
