Attempted Murder Suspect Sentenced To Prison
A Rawlins man has been sentenced to up to 80 years in prison for shooting his relatives. The incident occurred less than one year ago, during a dispute over money. Earlier this month, 74-year-old Melvin Bagley was convicted on two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder for shooting his nephew and his nephew’s wife last September. Bagley has been sentenced to between 40 and 80 years behind bars.
Local Artist Invited To Regional Competitive Art Exhibit

When he isn’t working for the Carbon County Library, Robert Fleetwood is taking photographs of the area in and around Rawlins. Fleetwood said he became interested in photography five years ago after discovering he possessed a talent for taking pictures.
Primary Election Voting Places Set Around County
Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 20th, is Primary Election Day for the 23 counties across Wyoming. In Rawlins, voting for each of the city’s three districts and the two precincts in each district will take place at the Jeffery Center. Voters who live in Muddy Gap and the Town of Sinclair will also vote at the Jeffery Center in Rawlins at 315 West Pine Street.

Rawlins Officials Give RPD New Option To Deal With Violations

During the August 6th Rawlins city council meeting, City Attorney Pinita Maberry-Nave informed the governing body that she is working with the Rawlins Police Department to create a new category of citation: a fix-it ticket. Instead of being limited to issuing a warning or a fine, Maberry-Nave said officers may instead choose to give the offender time to address the violation.

Mayor Weickum said wind energy plays an important financial role in Rawlins, Carbon County, and the entire state.

Wyoming Faces Widespread Thunderstorms: Flood Risks Along I-80 from Sidney to Rawlins
Cheyenne, WY – Thunderstorms are set to intensify across Wyoming this afternoon, bringing a significant risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne has identified a marginal risk of excessive rainfall along the Interstate 80 corridor, stretching from Sidney to Rawlins, as well as along Interstate 25 north to Wheatland. The risk increases due to “training storms,” where repeated rounds of thunderstorms move over the same areas.
Rawlins Will Hold Public Workshop To Discuss Flood Maps

In 2016, the Federal Emergency Management Agency began the process of updating flood plain maps across the country. The maps allegedly show properties that are vulnerable to a once in a century flood. Landowners in the flood plain must purchase insurance or be barred from receiving certain types of federal disaster assistance.

Rawlins Officials Discuss Forming Permanent Deer Culling Committee

In 2018, the Rawlins city council, with the cooperation of Wyoming Game and Fish and the Rawlins Police Department, created a deer culling committee. The following year, with the authorization of Game and Fish, the Rawlins PD began killing deer within city limits. The deer cull lasted until 2021, when the committee was disbanded.

Anyone who has a dog, cat, horse or any domestic animal has a friend in Dr. Warner McFarland. McFarland was picked as this year's Carbon County Fair Parade Grand Marshall, which took place on August 3. McFarland said he accepted the honor of being Grand Marshall when the Carbon County Fair Board called him.
AROUND WYOMING: National Night Out in Rawlins, Riverton and Uinta
In Rawlins, the police department offered free hot dogs and hamburgers to those who attended their National Night Out celebration. The RPD Victims Advocates also provided snow cones to the crowd. Community members met search and rescue, participated in drunk goggles golf cart with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, hung out with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, and toured the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County ambulance and Rawlins Fire Department truck. A helicopter visit from Classic Air Medical and giveaways from St. Christopher's Highway of Carbon County was included in the fun, as well.
