New hotel proposed at GI City Council meeting
Grand Island, Neb. — Paul Younes is looking to expand his hotel prowess into Grand Island. At Tuesday night's Grand Island City Council meeting, a redevelopment resolution was proposed to add a hotel and restaurant to the northwest corner of Husker Highway and Prairieview Street in the southwest part of the city, caddy-corner from the regional medical center.
Pickup goes out-of-control on Perkins Street, missing three people at picnic shelter
BEATRICE -- Beatrice Police and fire officials were sent to the scene of a bizarre accident just south of the downtown area. It happened when a roofing company pickup turning from South Fifth to travel east on Perkins went out of control. The truck ended up colliding with a picnic shelter at Gage County Foundation Park, narrowly missing three people sitting there. Police Sergeant Wes Henning says the accident involved a total of four vehicles.
Nebraska’s newest ‘Good Life’ district, in Bellevue, will center on indoor waterpark
BELLEVUE — Nebraska has its fourth “Good Life” district, as state economic development officials have approved the formation of a 575-acre district in Bellevue. The newest district, near the intersection of Highways 75 and 34 in Bellevue, joins others that have been designated in Gretna, Omaha and Grand Island.
SCAL field day set for Thursday, Aug. 8.
Lincoln, Neb. —The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s South Central Agricultural Laboratory (SCAL) field day is Thursday, Aug. 8. The field day focuses on improving crop production and profitability with research-based, practical information shared by University of Nebraska educators, specialists, staff and students. The event is designed so those attending can select the tours they are most interested in. Lincoln Man Victim of Online Dating Scam
A 37-year-old Lincoln man was the victim of a scam after befriending a female on a dating app. Lincoln Police say that shortly thereafter he received unsolicited nude photos and was then contacted by someone who said they worked for the Omaha Police Department. He was then told by the woman’s father would not press charges if the victim paid $2,400. The victim wired the money to an online account.

Local Truck Inspections Held in Fremont
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Carrier Enforcement Division conducted local commercial vehicle inspections on July 23rd and 24th in Fremont, Nebraska. During this effort, the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 66 vehicle inspections. Troopers discovered 154 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. Troopers placed 16 vehicles out of service (not allowed to return to the road). Additionally, troopers issued a total of 35 CVSA decals. The decals indicate that the vehicle inspected did not have any immediate safety issues.
