Consider it an evening with the stars. The 2024 Stars of Somerset Celebration returns to Crisfield with live music, good food and fun. This free, public celebration is presented by the County Times on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Somers Cove Marina.
Readers voted all summer in the Stars poll, to honor the businesses, organizations, nonprofits and people who go above and beyond. The contest has over 100 categories, from favorite bakeries, barbecue and boat captains—to photographers, principals and physicians.
Everyone is welcome to attend this relaxed, family-friendly event. Enjoy live music by Endless Ember, door prizes, free Shorebirds tickets and more. Smith Island cake will be given away (while supplies last) courtesy of the Somerset County Arts Council, and food will be available for purchase. Come enjoy an evening of community fun along the beautiful waterfront, perfect for a sunset event.
“This is a great celebration, open to the public to celebrate the best Somerset County has to offer. For those folks truly invested in Somerset County, this is a must-attend event,” said Jessica Cook, County Times special events manager.
Stars of Somerset winners and finalists can pick up their awards and smile for the camera at the Winners Circle photo area.
“One of the reasons why I love making the phone calls to local businesses that have won is these are the backbone of the community, finally getting celebrated,” said Karen Riggin, County Times marketing consultant. Even some of the more typically stoic individuals have shown emotion when they feel the community appreciation. “These people are working hard every day and are finally getting attention. It’s exciting for these people … for someone to call up and say, ‘The whole community has voted for the best in business, and you’re one of them!’”
Plus, Stars shines a spotlight on organizations that might otherwise fly under the radar.
On that note, there will be a special presentation for Person of the Year, recognizing individuals who work to make the community a better place.
“They are all very, very humble about it—like ‘Me? Really?’ So, I love this for them,” Ms. Riggin said.
This evening under the stars is sponsored by Chesapeake Utilities, Somerset County Arts Council and T And T Automotive.
