    Coleman, Crivitz suffer shutout defeats

    Niagara 2-Coleman 0NIAGARA — Marinette and Oconto Conference play began on a down note for the Coleman baseball team, as the Cougars suffered a 2-0 setback at the hands of Niagara on Monday.

    Neither team was able to break through on the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Badgers scored a pair of unearned runs for a 2-0 advantage entering the final frame.

    Mason Richting tossed a complete seven-inning outing for Niagara, allowing four hits and four walks to go along with three strikeouts.

    Coleman (0-1 M&O, 2-1 overall) out-hit the Badgers 4-2, with Brady Dufeck going two-for-two with a double.

    Aiden Sweig and Blake Holmes each tallied one base hit for the Badgers.

    Due upColeman: The Cougars hosted STAA on Tuesday, with results unavailable at press time. Coleman is at Wausaukee on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. start time.

    Norway 14-Crivitz 0CRIVITZ — The hit parade was out in full force for Norway on Monday, as the Knights hammered Crivitz 14-0 in non-conference action.

    Norway smacked 10 base hits while Cole Baij kept the Wolverines off-balance on the mound, tossing three innings of two-hit ball before handing the ball off to Adam Ortman and Owen Baij, who hurled back-to-back shutdown innings to hand Crivitz its first loss of the year.

    Ortman went 3-4 at the dish with three RBIs and finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.

    Tegan Werner and Kaden Klaver were responsible for both of the Wolverines’ base knocks.
