Despite warm and humid conditions, the race was sold out, and all the runners, decked out in their finest red, white, and blue, had a fantastic start to their day’s celebrations. Moving into the afternoon, the skies became dark and dreary, the storm clouds emptied their floodgates fast and furiously, and the evening’s activities looked in peril and possibly postponed. As luck would have it, the skies cleared into the early evening hours, the chances of further rain dissipated, and the Fourth activities commenced promptly at 6 pm.
