LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - People in Lubbock and across parts of the South Plains and Permian Basin reported feeling an earthquake Monday night. The USGS reports it was a 4.9-magnitude earthquake roughly 90 miles southeast of Lubbock. It was centered about 10 miles northeast of Hermleigh, east of Snyder just east of the Scurry-Fisher County line, north of U.S. 180. It had a depth of about 4.8 miles. A few minutes later, at 10:46 p.m. a 4.4-magnitude quake was observed just northwest of the initial epicenter, in Scurry County.
