Everything You Need to Know About the 2024 Mackinac Bridge Walk
The Mackinac Bridge Walk is the event that truly signals the end of summer in Michigan and now we have details about what's happening for this year's walk. The Mackinac Bridge Authority released all of the information for the 2024 walk on July 10, and there are a few changes to be aware of this year - mainly, that the starting point on the St. Ignace side of the bridge has changed. The Bridge Authority has decided to move the starting point on the north end of the bridge from the Mackinac Bridge Authority building to Bridge View Park to cut down on the amount of people walking across I-75.

Annual cycling tour rides through Missaukee
LAKE CITY — Over 200 cyclists made a stop in Lake City Friday as they continued their journey to Mackinaw City for the 53rd Dick Allen Lansing to MACkinaw (DALMAC). The annual bicycle tour began in East Lansing on Aug. 28, with three separate routes taking off this week. Two of the routes went through Missaukee County.

It was known as “the Castle of the Straits,” and its keepers no doubt felt like royalty. Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, in Mackinaw City, was built in 1889. In a “very desirable” location, said Dominick Miller, chief of marketing for Mackinac State Historic Parks, which owns the lighthouse. “Here you were in a fairly bustling community. At other (more remote) lighthouses, you were on your own.”
2024 Mackinac Bridge Walk just days away
The Mackinac Bridge will again be closed to public traffic during the 2024 walk, from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Labor Day, Sept. 2. For the safety and convenience of participants who start from the St. Ignace side, the walk will begin from Bridge View Park on the west side of I-75 rather than at the MBA administration building.

In August 0f 2007, a SOCATA TB-20 Trinidad airplane crashed into Lake Huron while in route to Bad Axe from Mackinac Island. The plane was flown by a 52-year-old woman from Washington DC and had one passenger, a 56-year-old man also from Washington, DC. A large-scale search for the plane wreckage or survivors was conducted, but the plane was never found.
