    Region 3 School Safety Summit

VICTORIA, Tx - A conference held Wednesday afternoon stressed the importance of education to fight against many school safety issues, like violence and the fentanyl crisis.

Region 3 hosted the school safety event this morning inside the spring creek events center. expert speakers discussed the rise of the fentanyl crisis and how to prevent school violence.

"We cannot arrest our way through this, we can’t seize enough drugs to solve this problem. The only way we can get a grip on it is education, and hopefully the folks who heard the information today will take it will share it in their schools, The children on the schools, as well as friends and family,” said John Callery with Safer Schools Together.

Fentanyl deaths in the state average around 1600 each year.

A small amount of the drug  just two milligrams -- can be deadly.
