Community Crossroads: VC President Jennifer Kent speaks on Dual Credit programs

Victoria College is gearing up to provide economically disadvantaged high school students with an opportunity to enroll in dual-credit courses at no cost through the state-funded Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) Program.

Starting in Fall 2024, qualified students will have the chance to earn college credit while still in high school without incurring any expenses.

FAST was made available through the passage of Texas House Bill 8 during the 88th legislative session. FAST Program allocates funding to participating community colleges to offer dual-credit courses at no cost to eligible students.

To qualify for the program , students must enroll in an eligible dual-credit course at a participating public school district or charter school and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Dr. Jennifer Kent, President of Victoria College , expressed excitement about rolling out the FAST Program to school districts in the Crossroads region. She emphasized the program's significance, stating that it would be a gamechanger for students with financial barriers.

"Students who do not qualify for the FAST Program will still have the opportunity to apply for dual-credit scholarships.

For more information about VC's dual-credit offering, call (361) 582-2400 or email EnrollmentServices@VictoriaCollege.edu.
