AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced a record $422.4 million returned in unclaimed property for the past fiscal year. This surpasses the $344 million returned in fiscal 2023 and marks the fifth time in six years that returns exceeded $300 million.

Since 1962, Texas has returned over $4 billion in unclaimed assets and holds more than $9 billion in unclaimed property. The $422.4 million includes various items such as utility deposits, insurance proceeds, and abandoned accounts. The state now holds over $9 billion in unclaimed assets. The $422.4 million returned in fiscal 2024 includes forgotten utility deposits, refunds, insurance proceeds, checks, dividends, mineral royalties, dormant accounts, and abandoned safe-deposit box contents.

“The $422.4 million represents nearly 250,000 claims paid to their rightful owners, and the fact that my office has returned nearly $3 billion to Texans since I became Comptroller is a testament to the hardworking folks in our Unclaimed Property Division,” Hegar said. “I encourage everyone to visit ClaimItTexas.gov to see if the state is holding some of their unclaimed property.”

Businesses usually transfer property to the program after it has been inactive for one to five years.

There’s no time limit to claim unclaimed property. For more details, visit ClaimItTexas.gov or call 800-321-2274 (CASH).
