VICTORIA, Texas - On Sept. 12, 2024, Victoria County Sheriff deputies arrested a Victoria West High School student following threats to "shoot up the school".

The student who was arrested is 17-year-old Brennen Gray. Gray is accused of telling multiple students not to attend school on Friday, Sept. 13, because he planned to "shoot it up", according to the arrest report. When questioned by his peers, Gray reportedly repeated his statement, saying, "I'm not joking." Witnesses told deputies Gray opened his backpack and showed it to students in class, implying he had a weapon. The students then reported the threats to the school resource officer. Deputies attempted to locate Gray at the school, but he could not be found, as he was away during off periods. Deputies later identified a vehicle linked to Gray at a residence on the 210 block of Cynthia Drive. After locating Gray at the residence, deputies made contact with someone at the residence, who confirmed Gray lived there. Gray  was brought outside, where deputies arrested him. Gray reportedly explained to deputies he had been joking and only trying to "show off" in front of his friends and a girl. He further claimed there was no gun in his backpack, which was later searched by deputies, confirming no weapon was found. Gray said he had not intended to cause any harm, but due to the seriousness of the threat, deputies arrested him and charged him with making a terroristic threat. Gray was transported and booked into the Victoria County Jail. He was bonded out later the same day. Related articles:
