CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Crossville is no longer a secret as more businesses plant their roots in Cumberland County and people continue to move into the area.

“I think our schools are very good here, teachers, all the parts of Crossville,” Scot Shanks, Crossville City Council Member said. “I mean we have a huge retirement area. We have tons of people moving into Crossville.”

Why new businesses and industries are flocking to Crossville

The housing market reflects that growth according to Victoria Eberhart, a local realtor.

“We’ve seen over the past 12 months about a 15% decrease in the amount of homes sold, but the prices of those homes have gone up nearly 9%,” Eberhart said. “So what that tells us is we still have a lot of demand and really low supply.”

The supply and demand issue driving up a home’s value.

“Where we differ from a lot of people is that we are maintaining the property value,” Eberhart said. “Like I said even though we’ve had lower sales there’s higher home values, so what sellers are seeing in the area, is their house has never been worth more.”

As more people move here, the city of Crossville is partnering with the YMCA to build a recreation center, something Shanks believes could attract more companies.

“This facility is going to help to bring businesses here I believe because when you have someone looking to bring a company here and they start looking to basically check off the boxes and we don’t have a YMCA or a rec center, I think that keeps us from even getting a look,” Shanks said.

The recreation center totals close to $40 million and will be located off Main Street.

“A walking track that goes above the two basketball courts, there’ll be meeting rooms,” Shanks said. “There will be rooms for working out, the main is the pool and the large gym, that’s the two things.”

The center is expected to be completed in 2026.
