Maury Regional Health Promotes Cathy Malone, MMHC, BSN, to Chief Nursing Officer

CRMC 5W Renovation Set To Open December
Work on the renovation of Cookeville Regional’s 5W wing expected to wrap up by the end of August. CEO Buffy Key said they are hoping to have patients in the new wing in December. Key said the project continues to stay on time and on budget despite recent economic challenges.
Cookeville Set For Orientation Thursday Afternoon
Cookeville High School hosting freshman orientation Thursday to allow students and families to get familiar with the school. Principal Karen Trentham said students at the event can get their schedule and student ID, pay their fees, and walk around campus to find their classes. Trentham said there will also be a brief assembly for students and parents about various events at the school and rules for items like pick up and drop off.
Foster Hall Demolition Completed, Cleanup Next
Tennessee Tech’s Foster Hall has been demolished, leaving just a pile of rubble. Capital Projects and Planning Director Jim Cobb said workers are now sorting through the remains of the building for recyclable materials and various metals. Cobb said the main demolition and clean up work should be done within the next two weeks.
Business Rewarding Kids Reciting The Pledge
A Cookeville business wanted to recognize young people who understand the importance of patriotism. Ralph’s Donut Shop rewarding kids 13 years or younger with a free donut if they can recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Business Owner John MacDonald said he started the event after he saw a business in Indiana do a similar type of event on the news.

Construction Underway For Sparta Dog Pound
Construction underway on a new Sparta dog pound at the Public Works headquarters on South Carter Street. Public Works Director Dillard Quick said the 24-by-30-foot facility will centralize the city’s Animal Control operations. He said the structure will feature five pens, running water and climate control, and a playpen. He said the building would be much smaller than the space previously used at the Sparta Police Station, which was far larger than necessary.
