Southern Miss' Niko Mazza picked by San Francisco Giants in eighth round of 2024 MLB Draft
HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss baseball pitcher Niko Mazza was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the eighth round with the No. 238 pick of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday. Mazza, a junior, has been a Southern Miss starter for the last two seasons. The draft pick holds a slot value of $218,600.
State signee Conrad Cason drafted by Red Sox
Mississippi State 2024 baseball signee Conrad Cason has been selected in the 8th round of the 2024 Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox with pick #237. Cason is a player who has received interest from pro clubs throughout his senior season. An injury hampered some of his play during the '24 season, but not enough to fall in the eyes of big league scouts.
Bogue Chitto residents celebrate connection to clear water
It’s been a decade coming, but over 70 homes in the Bogue Chitto community have been connected to clean county water for the first time. Many of the citizens who were recently connected to the county water system attended a ceremony at New Vernon Church in Marion Junction Thursday, July 11 to mark the occasion. West Dallas Water Board Vice Chair Maggie Drake-Peterson said it was the health of the citizens and the desire to make the community grow that fueled efforts to get clean water hooked up to homes in the area.

Emergency hospital opening in Smith County
RALEIGH, Miss. (WDAM) - Covington County Hospital and South Central Regional Medical Center will be collaborating to open the Smith County Emergency Hospital.
