The first day of school for Hammond Academy of Science and Technology (HAST) Hawks was on Wednesday, August 14. “I was nervous walking back into the school as a senior but also excited. I definitely did not want to go back but I think I was also ready to start at the same time. I hope this year goes by very smoothly since I’m also doing my internship at the Area Career Center,” said Lyila Vega, a senior at HAST.

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., the Hammond Parks and Recreation Department, and the Hammond Sportsplex are excited to announce their newest event: The First Responder Games. The Hammond Sportsplex will host a series of tournaments for local fire and police departments. Towns, cities, universities, volunteer departments, counties, and state are encouraged to send their police and/or fire teams to compete. For each tournament, one side of the bracket will be fire departments pitted against each other, with police vying for top spot on the other side. The fire winner will take on the police winner to determine the champion. Team registration is free.

The 30th Door Village Harvest Festival
The 30th Door Village Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 9:00 to 4:00 P.M. and Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Scipio Township Park, 3501 W. Joliet Road, in historic Door Village. There is No Admission charge to attend the festival, however Parking is $3.00 per vehicle and any Donations will be greatly appreciated. All proceeds from the festival will go to benefit the Scipio Township Park. Both Saturday and Sunday a variety of foods will also be available from local vendors at the Food Court as well as the delicious homemade baked goods from the popular Country Bake Shop. IEDC secures budget approval for LEAP pipeline in Indiana, land and infrastructure
Indiana’s State Budget Committee on Thursday approved a combined $101 million for a water pipeline, land and infrastructure for a controversial industrial park. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) also landed permission to augment its deal closing fund by a separate $101 million for a battery plant project worth $6 billion.
