Kitty Kats battle against Kenedy for five Sets

Tuesday, Oct 1 the Yorktown Kitty Kats defeated the Kenedy Leopards in a five set battle. Bringing Yorktown to 1-1 in district play and a 16-12 overall record.
Kenedy is also 1-1 in district after recording a win against the Pettus Eagles, 2520, 25-15, and 25-12.
Early in set one there was a long rally that started with Sydnie Krueger hitting out of the middle and ended when Brilye Campbell killed from the outside position. In another rally, libero Nina Villarreal dug the ball, Claire Person hit from the outside and Krueger ended play with a tip from middle. To get the ball back and in the hands of Krueger in the serving position the Kitty Kats killed the ball when Person passed out of serve receive to setter Braleigh Dodds before Carly Weischwill put the ball down from right side. Down 1812, Person accumulated another kill by hitting cross court out from the left side and inching the Kitty Kats closer. The Leopards were serving game point but the Kitty Kats worked and nabbed another point. Campbell passed the ball and ouside hitter Person scored to give possession to Yorktown. Palyn Koopmann’s jump serve put the ball into play but a long rally ended in favor of the Leopards with a double block against a Yorktown hitter, 2515.
The match scores were 15-25, 25-23, 17-25, 26-24.and 157.
Friday, Yorktown gathered another district win, this time against Bloomington. It was an impression victory, 25-5, 25-6, and 25-11. Seniors Dodds and Krueger led the team in serving points as both had eight in the first set.
The Kitty Kats are 2-1 in district play and will be back in action against district opponent Pettus on Friday, Oct 11.
