    There’s much happening in Cuero …75th Cuero Livestock Show, Market Day, CITYWIDE Cleanup, and the Easter Bunny arrives.

    • 75th Cuero Livestock Show and Sale February 24-March 1, Friar Ag Center/ Thomas Homemaking Center in the Park, was another exciting Show and Sale in its 75th year. Congrats to all participants! Thanks to the members of the Cuero Livestock Show Board for the many efforts in promoting the agriculture industry in DeWitt County.

    • Cuero Heritage Museum hosts a reception and book signing for its new exhibit, It’s All about Bells, featuring the bell collections of Nina Copenhaver and Marie Krejci as well as the historic bells of Cuero on Friday, March 8 at 5 PM at the Museum, 124 E. Church. Pat Trevino, author, will sign his book “Burning Faith: OLG Church Fire Christmas 1948”. Your help in solving the mystery surrounding the disappearance of this bell is appreciated. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 6, 2024, 10 AM for the unveiling of a new exhibit “War and Peace on the Rio Grande, 18611867” about the Civil War battles in S. Texas hosted by De Witt County Historical Museum, Cuero Heritage Museum, and UT-Rio Grande at the Cuero Heritage Museum, 124 E. Church.

    • Daylight Savings Time changes Sunday, March 10… Spring forward!

    • Cuero Municipal Park will be busy in March. On the golf course, Cuero JHS and CHS golf tournament March 4 & 5; March 23—Jackpot Golf Tournament. Cuero’s Easter Egg Hunt for Cuero’s younger crowd 0-10 will be held Saturday, March 30, Soccer Field #1, with Easter Bunny arriving at 11 AM for pix and the hunt at noon. Hope to see YOU there!

    • Cuero Main Street hosts its first Farmers Market in 2024 on Saturday March 23, 9a-1p, at the Library/Market Pavilion. For more information, view Cuero Downtown Farmer’s Market on Main FB page. New and favorite vendors will offer artisan crafts and food items including baked items and fresh brewed coffee. Since De Witt County is known as the Wildflower Capital of Texas and the wildflowers will be prolific this Spring, the Cuero Chamber hosts wildflower tours on its Trolley March 23 to view the very best fields; call the Chamber, 361-2752112 for reservations and times.

    • March 2024 Cleanup Week, Monday, March 18 from 8 A-6P and Tuesday thru Saturday, March 19-23, 8 A-4P. The City of Cuero and Keep Cuero Beautiful encourage citizens to take disposable materials to the City’s Recycling Center, 1315 E. Broadway, FREE using a paid utility receipt. Brush should be taken to the City’s Brush Collection site at 1160 Cheatham Rd. Not accepted is paint, concrete, torn down structures, and pesticides. Free to recycle used motor oil, metal, batteries, cardboard, aluminum cans, and cell phones. Tires cost $3 & up, oil filters $.50, antifreeze is $.25/qt. to recycle. Used electronics can be recycled during this week as well. Unwanted items which are resaleable, reusable, or repurposed will be collected for the Resale Shop—furniture, dishes, paintings, sports equipment. Spring Cleaning at its BEST! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

    Keep Cuero Beautiful will host a ribbon cutting for the recently completed landscaping at 183 N and S through the KTB and TXDOT Governor’s Community Achievement Award on Tuesday, March 19, 10:30 AM at 183 N across from the Dodge dealership. Hope to see YOU there! KCB will sponsor the Keep Texas Beautiful and TXDOT Don’t Mess with Texas Cleanup along Texas highways in our area Saturday, April 6. Form your team, sign up at the Chamber, and meet KCB at the Library Pavilion at 8:30 AM to pick up your supplies and assignment for litter cleanup; go collect, and take filled bags to Recycling Center, 1315 E. Broadway, to weigh by 11:30 AM. The top 3 teams in weight of collected litter will receive $100 to ‘pay it forward’ to the team’s favorite local non profit (pix of check presentation for FB required!). Remember Don’t Mess with Texas!

    Cuero City Council Election May 4 will not be held due to only one person filed for each vacancy: Mayor, District 2 and District 3 Councilpersons. Emil Garza filed for Mayor; Terry Glover for District 2 and Tony Allen for District 3. These will be sworn into office at the May 2024 Council meeting. Each will serve a two year term. Congrats!

    It has been a privilege to serve as your Mayor these 14 years! How Cuero has grown over these years is amazing and thanks to you! Thank you for your support, for your love of this community— working daily to help make Cuero, the way life ought to be!
