In the world of winemaking, where every bottle tells a story, the McBride Sisters Wine Company has carved out a unique niche. Founded by sisters Robin McBride and Andréa McBride John, their story is one of defiance against tradition, a celebration of culture and a dedication to growth and inclusivity .

With their new Legacy Collection, the McBride Sisters invite wine enthusiasts to raise a glass to the past, present and future.

Released in March 2024, the new collection celebrates the McBride Sisters’ unique story. Born on opposite sides of the world, McBride and John were brought together by their shared passion for wine.

Today, they stand as disruptors in the industry, challenging conventions and redefining what it means to be successful in the wine business.

“While all of the wines we make have a personal connection to our story as sisters and winemakers, this portfolio is the most personal to date,” says McBride. “It is a representation of what we believe our legacy to be.”

Legacy Collection Balances Tradition and Innovation

The debut wines in the Legacy Collection are crafted from Rhône grape varieties grown in the Edna Valley near the Pacific Ocean in San Luis Obispo.

These wines are known for their light-to-medium body, intense aromas, well-rounded flavors, earthy depth and lively acidity.

Edna Valley’s extended growing season, the longest in California, allows the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while retaining a remarkable freshness. The Legacy Collection includes three wines, each with its own unique flavor profile:

    • 2019 Syrah: A velvety pour with savory, peppery aromas atop dark black cherries and purple blackberries, with hints of bacon fat and lavender-led florals.
    • 2019 GSM: A structured blend of grenache, syrah, and mourvedre, with aromas of rainier cherry, ripe raspberry, and juicy pomegranate, complemented by white pepper spice and lush fruit flavors.
    • 2020 Grenache: Brightly aromatic with concentrated red cherry and notes of rose petals, sweet sage, and pepper, lifted by acidity and ripe red fruit flavors.

Each bottle is adorned with symbols that individually represent the sister duo, such as their astrological signs, the African Adinkra Odo Nyera Fie Kwan Symbol, the Māori Symbol, the Ensō Circle and more. For those seeking the ultimate wine experience, the McBride Sisters Collection Legacy Gift Set offers a bottle of each new wine, packaged in a wooden memento gift box.

“From the beginning, we’ve sought out to break from tradition and create our own in the wine industry, and to cultivate a brand that places women, culture, taste and lifestyle at the center of the wine experience,” says McBride.

“With the McBride Sisters Collection Legacy portfolio, we aimed to develop a line of wines that truly represent us and the legacy we’ve strived to build over the last nearly two decades.”

As two African American women in a traditionally male-dominated industry, McBride and John have made it their mission to create a space where everyone feels welcome and represented.

Balancing tradition with innovation has been a guiding principle for the sisters throughout their winemaking journey. While their portfolio includes classics like California chardonnay and New Zealand sauvignon blanc, the Legacy Collection represents a departure into uncharted territory.

“The bottles in this portfolio represent that less expected side, with reds from the Paso Robles and the Central Coast that have gained recent acclaim for growing some of the most concentrated and focused syrahs and grenaches,” says McBride. “We love to surprise – and delight – our drinkers.”

The Legacy Collection continues to be a labor of love, marking the culmination of years the sisters spent honing their craft and nurturing their vineyards.

After investing so much time and care into crafting their latest wines, the McBride Sisters have decided to focus solely on these inaugural vintages, with no immediate plans to expand the collection.

This decision underscores their commitment to honoring the distinct character and exceptional quality of the wines they have meticulously curated.

“Like drinking a good bottle of wine, we like to savor the moment,” jokes McBride. “We’re excited for people to try these wines and hear their reactions.”

As the McBride Sisters continue to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be successful in the wine industry, they remain steadfast in their belief that the Legacy Collection is just the beginning of a new chapter in their remarkable story. For them, the journey is far from over.

“We hope the portfolio inspires consumers to blaze trails of their own and leave their own legacies.”
