Natchitoches Police investigate shooting on Virginia Avenue
The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon on Virginia Avenue near Myrtle Drive. On July 25, 2024 around 4:54 p.m., officers with the Natchitoches Police Department responded to the 500 block of Virginia Avenue in reference to gunshots in the area. Upon officers arrival they located the victim who was suffering from several gunshot wounds. Officers began to render medical attention to the victim while waiting on other first responders to arrive.
1 Lafayette Officer Dead, 3 Injured in Hostage Situation in Jeanerette, Louisiana – Suspect Identified
JEANERETTE, La. (KPEL News) - The Lafayette Police Department has confirmed one of their own was killed in the line of duty in Jeanerette, Louisiana on Thursday. According to a statement released by LPD Sgt. Matthew Benoit, two of the officers injured were struck by bullets. Two others were struck by bullet fragments. Of the four who were injured, one fell in the line of duty.

DA announces dispositions in theft cases
District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced the dispositions in three felony theft cases. Matthew Robinson, 20 of Natchitoches, violated the terms of his probation. In 2022, Robinson originally pleaded guilty to theft. The theft related to an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to felony probation, with several terms and conditions in which he must adhere. In April 2024, a probation revocation hearing was held due to Robinson accused of violating the terms of his probation. Judge Sylvester ruled Robinson was in violation and ordered him to serve the original sentence of 10 years of incarceration at hard labor.

New Boston Considering Another Capital Murder Charge
A 19-year-old man could face a second capital murder charge after the death of the second victim in a July 6 robbery and shooting. Malaki Scott Beckham remains in custody at the Bi-State Detention Center on a $2 million bond. The victim, Nicholas Webster, 19, died July 18 at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital, according to the New Boston Police Department. They expect Beckham to face a charge of capital murder in Webster’s death. Beckham already is charged with capital murder in the death of Princeton Washington, 19, who died at the scene of the shooting in the 300 block of North Lindsey Street. At the time of the shooting, Beckham was serving a 10-year term of felony probation in Bowie County for a 2022 robbery and a five-year probation term for a 2021 credit/debit card abuse case.
