Three Shreveport men convicted on federal firearms charges
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Three men from Shreveport each face years in federal for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. According to United States Attorney Brandon Brown’s office, DeAngelo A. Davidson, 33, Gmerrio L. Underwood, 24, and Casey R. Cawthorn, 24, were sentenced for their crimes committed in September of 2022.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The upcoming Humor & Harmony festival will be held at multiple locations across Shreveport over four days. The festival is scheduled for Aug. 8-11. Initially, it was announced the event would be held at Independence Stadium, however, the venue has been changed to the Municipal Auditorium. Festival organizers say this decision was made because of the intense heat the area typically sees during August.

Baton Rouge saw strong job growth in June
The Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area added 1,300 jobs from May to June to bring its total to 426,200, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. That figure represents the most robust job growth seen by any of Louisiana’s nine MSAs last month. Shreveport saw the second-largest uptick, adding 400 jobs.

In June, Louisiana Sportsbooks cleared $27 million in gross revenue
According to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, the state collected $27.2 million in gross sports betting revenue for June. This was the seventh consecutive month that the state’s collective hold hit double digits. All sports betting operators in Louisiana combined for a 12.8% hold against $212.1 million in the handle. That was their third straight month with a hold of 12.5% or higher. Additionally, their gross winnings nearly doubled compared to the $13.6 million from June 2023. However, their betting handle a year ago was 32.5% higher than it is for June 2024. Finally, their $29.4 million in tax revenue for the first six months of the year is $11.3 million ahead of last year’s pace.
