CULLMAN, Ala. – The Link of Cullman County’s monthly community meal on Thursday, June 27, saw a large turnout, despite ongoing construction. The usual communal dining experience was transformed into a drive-through format to accommodate the center’s progress.

Volunteers from this month’s sponsor organization, Daystar Church, provided, prepared and packaged the take-home meals. This allowed participants to drive up to the center’s doors and have their meals brought directly to their vehicles.

“The drive-through meal was a fun way to serve our community. We are so thankful that Daystar Outreach was willing to serve in this way during our remodel,” said Julie Hall, director of programs at The Link.

The change in format and threat of showers did little to keep the attendance numbers down, as the group of window runners served 80 hot dog meals to 22 vehicles and three individual walk-ups.

“Eighty meals plus 22 cars plus three walk-ups equals a really good time,” beamed Hall. “We can’t wait until our next sit-down meal on July 11. Be looking for more information about that event in the next week or so.”

The next community meal is July 11, beginning at 6 p.m. at The Link, located at 708 Ninth St. SE in Cullman.
