    Tornado touch down confirmed in Western North Carolina

    The National Weather Service has confirmed the touch down of a tornado in Western North Carolina, last week. The tornado hit the Jackson County area early last Thursday morning.

    Weather Service officials say damage was found north of Glenville and just south of Cullowhee. Officials say damage was limited to uprooting and snapping trees. The tornado path was estimated to be nearly 7 miles long.

    Storm surveys in the Upstate found strong straight line winds in Anderson and Laurens Counties, but no confirmed tornadoes. The winds in downtown Anderson were reportedly up to 75 miles per hour. There was no confirmed damages of building or homes in the Western North Carolina tornado.
