BELCHERTOWN — Protesters who were arrested at the May 7 pro-Palestinian rally on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus filed out of the Eastern Hampshire District Courthouse on July 17 after pretrial proceedings to gather with supporters, organizers, and legal support on the lawn. Pretrial hearings for the arrested protesters, who refer to themselves as the “Mullins 134,” began on July 8 and are expected to continue through September.

Man wields machete at park during argument between football teams
A Petersburgh man was arrested for bringing out a machete during an argument between two football teams at a park in Lake County. A deputy responded to a call involving a disturbance with a machete at North Lake Regional Park, located at 40730 Roger Giles Road in Umatilla, around 7:20 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Bob Marcum, who served as athletic director at Kansas, South Carolina, UMass and Marshall, has died a few days after suffering a stroke. He was 87. South Carolina, UMass and Marshall’s athletic departments all announced Marcum’s death Wednesday, a day after he died. Arkansas coach John Calipari, who worked under Marcum at Massachusetts, posted on social media Sunday that Marcum was hospitalized after complications from a stroke.
