The Currituck County Center of NC Cooperative Extension has announced that Adam Formella, agriculture agent, was recognized during the 2024 NC Association of County Agricultural Agents (NCACAA) state meeting in Wilmington, NC.

Adam received the NCACAA Young Agent Scholarship Award. The Young Agent Scholarship Award is offered to agents under 30 years of age, with less than five years of service to NC Cooperative Extension. These individuals must possess an outstanding programming record and submit a competitive application for consideration.

Formella oversees the agriculture program in Currituck County. His responsibilities include supporting Currituck farmers through field crop programs, consultations and trials; providing safe pesticide education and certification training; addressing commercial and consumer horticulture issues; supporting livestock producers and assisting with youth agricultural programs. He also provides supervision and support to Currituck agriculture technician Chris Blaha, who coordinates the Extension Master Gardener program and provides home horticulture services and education.

Cameron Lowe, Currituck County Extension director stated, “Since Adam’s hiring in 2019, he has been an outstanding team member. He brings an innovative approach to agricultural programs and has developed new audiences in our rapidly growing community. He strives to develop an appreciation for agriculture in everyone he encounters. We are very proud of his accomplishments and excited that his peers chose to bestow this honor upon him.”

Formella plans to utilize his scholarship to attend the National Association of County Agricultural Agents meeting, where he will improve his technical skill and generate new ideas and practices to benefit Currituck farms and families.
