Gov. Lujan Grisham Visits Eastern New Mexico
The executive branch of New Mexico’s state government has been busy the past few days. On Monday and Tuesday, members of the governor’s cabinet, including Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham herself, visited various businesses across both Curry and Roosevelt county, with the visit ending in a surprise town hall at Eastern New Mexico University.
Summer temps return to the High Plains
Starting the morning with temps in the 50s and 60s across the High Plains. Clear skies are favoring the area with calm winds. Flooding was a huge concern yesterday morning for Curry County and the Clarendon area. 24-hour rainfall reports show both of these areas saw 2.12″ to 1.80″ of rain. Temps for this afternoon will rise into the 80s to low 90s. This is very average and seasonal for this time of year. Temps will continue to warm up as we progress throughout the workweek. There is a chance for isolated storms across eastern New Mexico this evening. Wednesday’s forecast looks more favorable for rain potential for the Texas Panhandle. Keeping a close eye on this one as moisture potential has changed significantly in the past 24 hours. The summer heat return by the end of the week with some areas seeing triple-digit temps for Sunday.

Man sentenced to 11 years for punching, trying to bite police officers
CLOVIS, N.M. (KVII) — A man was sentenced to 11 years in prison for punching two police officers and trying to bite them in October. Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray said Carlos Lopez, 40, of Clovis, was sentenced to 11 years in the Department of Corrections on June 18 for two counts of battery on a police officer after being convicted by a Curry County jury.
