Recently, Del Norte Sheriff Garrett Scott and Curry County(OR) Sheriff John Ward announced a Hands Across the Border agreement to join forces to help combat drugs and stolen property crossing state lines.

Two deputies from Del Norte and two deputies from Curry took their respective Oaths from Oregon and California.

Cross Deputization will allow investigation teams to conduct operations jointly. Sheriff Scott said, “Teams from both counties can assist each other in search warrants to help identify suspects and stolen property as well as information exchange.”

The extradition process remains unchanged with an arrestee going directly to jail within the jurisdiction the accused is arrested. An extradition warrant would follow.

The DNSO Deputies are Sergeant McClaflin, Investigations Supervisor and Sergeant Dylan Balch.

Sheriffs Ward and Scott concurred theft issues and narcotics tend to go hand-in-hand in both Curry and Del Norte, oftentimes share the same suspects and locations from burglaries and commercial thefts.

Sheriffs Scott and Ward are considering including other law enforcement agencies in the program. The Crescent City Police Dept. has also assigned two officers in future expansion of inter-state investigations.

The thin blue line on Law enforcement between the Beaver State and the Golden State is slowly fading.
