Oregon woman dies on Rogue River after being knocked out of raft
A 66-year-old woman from Powers died Saturday after she was knocked out of a raft on the Rogue River and drowned, according to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office. Mary Kohn began a float with three others and a dog from Foster Bar Boat Ramp, near Agness and east of Gold Beach in southern Oregon, officials said.

CURRY COUNTY, Ore. – A 66-year-old woman is dead after falling out of a raft during an excursion on the Rogue River Saturday afternoon. According to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, the 911 call came just before 1 p.m. from an Agness resident who reported that a woman had drowned near Two-Mile Rapids.

The bird flu outbreak has expanded to 31 states and jumped to dozens of species, including nine mammals in Oregon that tested positive for the H5NI virus since 2022. A half dozen skunks, a raccoon, a red fox and a marten in Oregon were infected with the bird flu, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Four skunks tested positive in Columbia County in December 2022 and two in Crook County in January 2023. The raccoon was in Curry County (January 2023), the American marten in Douglas County (February 2023) and the red fox in Wallowa County (May 2023).
