Winter WI - The Winter Warriors Boys Basketball team set out on the road to take on the 5-2 Webster Tigers, a strong Division 4 team that is having a solid season. The Warriors are coming into the game with a 5-5 record, and leading all Division 5 schools in points per game, steals per game, and rebounds per game.

Early on the Warriors applied the full court press, and the pressure was giving the Tigers some challenges as they turned the ball over, however, the Warriors struggled to convert on the other end. The Tigers played a slow and deliberate style of basketball that valued the ball on each possession with the goal of slowing down the Warriors and their high-powered offense.

The Warriors struggled to convert on multiple great looks they produced from getting to the rim. The Tigers were a long and athletic team, and made shots difficult for the Warriors by contesting shots at the rim.

On the stat sheet, the Warriors and Tigers played a game that was step-for-step as the rebounds were 40-37 in favor of Webster, the assists were 16-16, the turnovers were 17-16 in favor of Winter. However, Winter's 16 turnovers included 13 steals from Webster that converted directly into layups for Webster. Webster also pounded Winter in the paint with shots at the rim. Webster converted 70 points at the rim, while Winter had 48 points at the rim. This was the true differentiator in the game.

Gunnar Greuel had a game-high 22 points leading all scorers and pulling down 19 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists, pilfering 3 steals, and sending away 3 blocked shots. A career high of 19 points came from CJ Thompson on a great game attacking the rim and putting Webster into early foul trouble. Adam Bednorski added 12 points going 3-9 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe. Bednorski retired early fouling out. Carter Petit started the game strong scoring 8 points but going down to an ankle injury that will sidline him for 4-6 weeks, pending doctors orders. Malte Colliander added 8 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds, as he found teammates flashing to the basket on numerous plays. Rounding out the scoring was Cole Petit with 2 points, but Cole's contrbution was on the defensive side as he applied strong ball pressure, and forcing Webster into multiple turnovers.

Webster was led by Ian McFaggan with 21 points and 6 steals, followed by followed by Nathan Jackson with 17 points, Dominick Ricci was all over the place causing havoc for the Warriors offense, but poured in 15 points and Quinn Widiker added 13 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. The Webster Tiger were a well balanced offense with long and athletic players causing problems for the Warriors offense. Webster moves on to a 6-2 overall record and 4-1 in conference playing sitting at 3rd in the Lakeland West.

The Warriors are in action on Friday, January 5th as they travel to Flambeau for conference play. Tip-off time is 5:45PM. The Warriors move to 5-6 overall, and 2-3 in conference play.
