Winter Wisconsin - On January 24, 2024, Athletic Director, Jack Delabar received a phone call that included an invitation for 2024 athlete, Gunnar Greuel, to represent Team Wisconsin in the 2024 Minnesota vs Wisconsin Border Battle.

This event is the 16th Annual Border Battle event sponsored by St. Luke's Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. The event is hosted by the Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association and held at the Romano Gymnasium on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. Each year, the committee selects 10 athletes from Minnesota and 10 athletes from Wisconsin to participate in this All-Star game. The game is representative of northland athletes from Minnesota, and Northern Wisconsin to battle over border supremacy.

Gunnar currently has 949 career points, and 1,102 career rebounds, and was dubbed 2023's Wisconsin Rebound King, as he led the state in total rebounds (496) and rebounds per game (19.1). In 2024, Gunnar is looking to top those numbers and is currently averaging 22.8 rebounds per game, and once again leads the state of Wisconsin across all divisions in total rebounds and rebounds per game. Gunnar is likely to be a 2x Rebound King for WIAA boys basketball.

According to sources and the documentation in the Wisconsin Sports Network dating back to 2002, the last 22 years have included just 6 athletes with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds in WIAA boys basketball. Gunnar would be the 7th in that 22 year span.

Greuel becomes just the third athlete in Winter School history to be selected to the all-star game. In 2012, Callie Sadjera was selected, and in 2015, Kaylee Martin was also selected. No other athletes have been since selected to participate.

The Winter School District, Winter community, and Winter Boys Basketball program are excited for this opportunity to for Gunnar to represent the school and community on such a stage.
