ATHENS -- As overnight temperatures increase during the summer, so do mosquito populations, bringing with them the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. In late June, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that the U.S. is seeing an increased risk of dengue fever, a sometimes fatal viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. DECATUR -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Monday the promotion of Catherine Jordan to manager of the GBI’s Central Regional Crime Lab. The number of educators retiring in Alabama is climbing again, with nine school districts seeing the highest number of retirements in the past decade. Just under 3,100 employees retired from July of 2023 through June of 2024, according to the Teachers Retirement Systems of Alabama. Storms take down trees, knock out power across CSRA
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An overnight thunderstorm knocked down trees and brought power outages early Tuesday across the CSRA. The National Weather Service said the storm was a microburst. A microburst is column of fast-moving sinking air that can cause destruction as the wind hits the ground and spreads in all directions.
