Two Local UNL College Students Receive Scholarships
The Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation awarded ten scholarships to students enrolled in the Agricultural Education Teaching Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL). According to Megahn Schafer, executive director of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation, “Classrooms and FFA chapters will benefit from the passion reflected in this year’s applications, and “it is an honor to support these future teachers who will develop strong leaders to ensure a bright future for Nebraska agriculture.”
Rosentrater Pleads Not Guilty to Multiple Charges
Several criminal cases came before Judge Karin L. Noakes in the Custer County District Court on Thursday, June 27th. Thursday afternoon, Timothy A. Rosentrater, age 62 of Callaway, appeared for a preliminary hearing on additional charges that were filed in May of 2024. In all, Rosentrater is charged with four counts of 1st degree sexual assault, Class II felonies; eight counts of sexual assault of a child, Class IIIA felonies, one count of 2nd degree sexual assault, a Class III felony, and one count of 3rd degree sexual assault, a Class I misdemeanor. The alleged assaults occurred in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2024. The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges. A jury trial is set for October 15, 2024 with a pretrial hearing on September 19th.
Fire near Anselmo handled quickly by responders Monday
ANSELMO, NE – First responders quickly controlled a blaze that sparked between Anselmo and Merna near Highway 2 and Road 430 on Monday just after noon (June 24). Flames could be seen on the opposite side of the tracks from Highway 2 as Anselmo firefighters already on scene approached the fire. Merna crews were asked to stand down shortly after initial calls to respond.
Custer County Board of Supervisors to meet Tuesday morning
The Custer County Board of Supervisors will meet in regular session Tuesday, June 25 at 9:00 am in the supervisors room on the top floor of the courthouse in Broken Bow. The agenda, which is kept continuously current and open for public inspection in the office of the County Clerk can be seen below. The board may go into executive session on any issue if the need arises.
Annual tractor ride takes off!
JUNE 21, 2024 - BROKEN BOW, NEB. - They left the Custer County Fairgrounds, mosied up Memorial Drive , circled the drive at Brookestone then headed north on 9th Avenue, leaving town. The 11th Annual Custer County Tractor Drive is underway. Breakfast was at 7 a.m. and drivers had the tractors on the road by 8. There will be a morning break and an afternoon break as the drivers meander Custer County. The group is expected back at the fairgrounds around 4:30 p.m. The drive is a "Ride for a Cause" with proceeds benefiting Custer Care Transportation Services.
