Stanley County Hosts Hill City to Begin Season
The Stanley County Buffaloes will open up the 9AA season tonight at Ole Williamson Field against a team who is playing for the first time in 9AA, the Hill City Rangers. Stanley County finished the 2023 season at 7-2, dropping only one regular season game to Bon Homme 28-22 before falling by four 32-28 to Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy in the first round of the 9AA playoffs. Chargers Open Season on the Road Facing Winless Northwestern
The Sully Buttes Chargers football team will get the season underway tonight as the Chargers will take on the Northwestern Wildcats in Mellete. The Chargers finished the 2023 season at 3-6 falling in the first round of the playoffs to Kadoka Area 38-22, but have plenty of experience returning with just one graduated senior from last year’s team. Tonight, the Chargers face the Wildcats who did not pick up a win last year. At 0-8, Northwestern had five games end by the 50 point mercy rule and scored just 16 points all season with those 16 coming in only two games. Northwestern drops from Class 9A to 9B for the season. Tennis Travels to Madison for Two Day Invite
The Pierre Governor tennis team is back to work this weekend after its first set of competition last weekend. The Governors will be in Madison for a two day event. Starting today, the Governors will compete in a singles tournament as teams from around the state will be there. Teams of Aberdeen Roncalli, Huron, Lennox, Milbank, Rapid City Christian, Sioux Falls Christian, Spearfish, St. Thomas More and Vermillion. Pierre has already seen Rapid City Christian, Spearfish and Huron from last weekend’s four duals.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -The South Dakota State football team has won back to back national championships and is focused on making it three straight this season. SDSU enters the new season ranked number one in the preseason FCS poll. The Jackrabbits kick things off August 31st when they play at Oklahoma State.
Excessive heat Sunday; Severe weather chances ahead
Very hot weather is forecast to wrap up the last half of the weekend across KELOLAND. Heat headlines are in effect for the region, including an excessive heat warning for Sunday afternoon. This warning does include the Sioux Falls area. Prepare for heat index values between 100 and 110 east of the Missouri Valley. The other headline we will be watching is the chance of severe weather. Severe thunderstorm development is possible Sunday evening in northeastern South Dakota. The risk of severe weather will expand on Monday to include much of the southeast including Sioux falls. Continue to watch the forecast for updates. While Monday will still be very hot ahead of the front, cooler weather is in sight for the middle part of the week.
