Krupski: Southold’s Rural Character is No Accident
Southold Town Supervisor Al Krupski extolled the town’s work going back decades to preserve its rural character in his first State of the Town address July 18. “When people who are unfamiliar with Southold visit, it’s not readily apparent why our town is the way it is. We have a lot of open space, both woodland and farmland, beaches open for swimming, and times of year when you can safely make a left hand turn,” said Mr. Krupski in a speech at town hall before a crowd of civic leaders and town department heads. “We have clearly defined hamlet centers, not suburban sprawl. Our visitors always note the relative absence of big box stores and sprawled-out formula food franchises. All of this happened here very intentionally. Our town isn’t different from the rest of the towns by accident.”
