EUREKA, Calif. — Many gathered in the Veterans Memorial Building in Fortuna to honor Don Harms, a 105-year-old veteran who recently died. Harms was a veteran from Humboldt County, who was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 21 and then served as an army ranger during World War II.
Veteran-led Honor Guard Ceremony Held Today to Honor WWII Vet Who Died Recently
A veteran-led honor guard ceremony will be held on Friday, August 30 to honor Don Harms. The ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial building in Fortuna at 1pm. Harms, who passed away recently, at the age of 105, was drafted into the US Army at the age of 21, and fought in some of the fiercest battles of World War II.

School is back in session along the North Coast, and i visited the Humboldt County Office of Education to see just why attending school is so important for local students. Gillian Townsend, a Licensed Social Worker for the Humboldt County Office of Education, told Redwood News, “Completing an education is really what leads to becoming a successful adult. The k-12 education is critical and necessary for higher education, but also for vocational programs and joining the military or even becoming an entrepreneur.”
