Courthouse security tightened
Security is being tightened at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin. But some Parish Council members had questions Wednesday about the new safety setup. The council passed an ordinance in May establishing a two-member Courthouse Security Commission empowered to require people entering the courthouse to undergo “a physical search, and/or search utilizing metal detectors/x-ray devices.”
Abbeville man caught with too many red snapper
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited an Abbeville man for alleged fishing violations on July 20th in Vermilion Parish. Agents cited Viet Nguyen, 63, for possessing over the limit of Red Snapper, possessing undersized Red Snapper, intentional concealment of fish, and failing to keep fish intact.

A resident of New Iberia and a native of Lockport, Louisiana, Craig Cyril Bernard was born on April 10, 1951, to the late Cyril Edwin and Edna Falgout Bernard. He lived most his of childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, then St. Petersburg, Florida then returned to Lockport in 1983.

Bombers drop doubleheader to Cane Cutters
YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Acadiana Cane Cutters swept a doubleheader with the Brazos Valley Bombers on Sunday night in Texas Collegiate League play. The Cane Cutters grabbed a 5-4 walk-off victory in the opener in 11 innings to snap the Bombers’ eight-game winning streak. Acadiana added a 7-5 victory in the nightcap. The Bombers led 3-0 and 5-2 in trying to salvage a split, but the Cane Cutters scored the last five runs.
