While responding, Sgt Triplett of the Winnfield Police Department heard shots being fired from that direction. He then observed several people scattering from the intersection of Luckey and Thompson Streets, about 2 blocks from the event. As he arrived at that location, a b/m subject was being loaded into a private car and was taken to the Winn Parish Hospital with gunshot wounds. Sgt Triplett called for a mobilization of off-duty officers and back up from the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office as the crowd of over 200 people were causing chaos trying to leave all at the same time, contaminating any time of crime scene which had not been determined at the time.
