HELENA — In 1980, four women from Montana qualified for the Summer Olympics in track and field events. The women: Julie Brown, Billings, class of 1973 Billings Senior; Lorna Griffin, Corvallis, class of 1974 Corvallis High; Pamela Spencer, Great Falls, class of 1975 Great Falls High; and Mary Osborne (Andrews), class of 1979, Billings West.
Colstrip power plant offline during heat wave
A large source of energy generation for Montana’s biggest utility has gone offline while much of the state experiences extreme heat. The coal-fired power plant in Colstrip went offline Tuesday afternoon. NorthWestern Energy spokesperson Jo Dee Black confirmed the shutdown but did not give details on the cause. Black told MTPR NorthWestern hopes to have the facility up and running in the next few days. This loss of Montana-based energy means the utility company will have to purchase energy from the open market to meet demands.

The University of Montana's Twitter page posted much clearer images of the moose at South Campus Stadium on campus. Even here in Missoula, Montana, you don't see moose trotting around town often. Early Wednesday afternoon, the Montana Grizzlies Soccer Twitter page tweeted "Most Montana thing ever: there's a moose on the field. #GrizLife"
Bozeman City Council adds First Responder Levy and Fire Station 4 Bond to Nov 2024 ballot
BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Bozeman City Council voted Tuesday to add the First Responder Levy and Fire Station 4 Bond to the November 2024 ballot. “We’re excited to see this issue be placed in the voter’s hands to decide,” Interim City Manager Chuck Winn said in a release from the City of Bozeman. “The fact is that we haven’t meaningfully added staff in these departments since the 2007 mill levy and we’re still operating with that same capacity even though Bozeman has nearly doubled in size. We also knew when we relocated Fire Station 2 we would need to fill the gap in service on the west side with a new fire station. These are important things for residents to know and weigh as they make their decision.”

One person dead in crash on Highway 2 W, in Kalispell
KALISPELL, Mont. - Police are investigating a fatal crash in the 1100 block of Highway 2 West in Kalispell Wednesday. The Kalispell Police Department said in a press release the crash happened at around 11:17 a.m. One person died of their injuries. No identities have been released at this time.
Routine Missoula Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Fentanyl Pills
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 22, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer was patrolling near Broadway St. and Scott St. when he observed a white Jeep in front of him approaching the intersection. The officer observed the light turn yellow as the Jeep continued to approach the intersection without slowing down. Former Montana State Prison officer admits to distributing dangerous drugs
ANACONDA, Mont. — An Anaconda man admits to distributing dangerous drugs while he was a sergeant at the Montana State Prison. Scott Patrick Elliott pleaded guilty in Anaconda-Deer Lodge district court on Wednesday morning to one felony count of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs, admitting that he provided marijuana to others in 2022 and 2023.
