19-Year-Old Arrested for in Coffee County for Allegedly Busting Out Car Window
A 19-year-old was recently arrested for allegedly breaking a car window, according to a Coffee County Sheriff’s Office incident report. The report states that on August 8, a 46-year-old man contacted an official with the CCSO to report an incident of criminal damage to property that occurred in April.

Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Arrests and Drug Seizure in Douglas
Last week, a 23-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, who both had warrants, were arrested following a traffic stop. On August 21, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a detective with the Coffee County Drug Unit was observing traffic on Hwy 21 North in the Oak Park Community when he noticed a Black GMC Pickup traveling south toward the city. The detective said he observed behavior that he believed to be an indicator of criminal behavior.

The City of Douglas is one of 36 communities in the state that have been awarded funding through Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Over $875,000 was awarded to the City of Douglas through the program, which will be used for neighborhood revitalization.

On Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council conducted the first meeting of the 2024-2025 term. In the absence of Jr. Mayor Destiny Henderson and Jr. Mayor Pro Tem Dominic Mimbang, the Subcommittee Liaison, Jr. Commissioner Zipporah Wilcox led the meeting and acknowledged Jr. Commissioner Zynia Hunt and Jr. Commissioner Naveah Spencer. Douglas Police Department is Moving Forward into the Future
The Douglas Police Department (DPD) is excited to unveil its Tesla Model Y test program. Instead of choosing a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy, the Douglas Police Department has made a unique choice by purchasing its first Tesla Model Y vehicles. The two new Tesla Model Y administrative vehicles and two new patrol vehicles, which look different from the usual police SUVs in the area, arrived on Friday, August 23, 2024. The DPD Teslas will be in full operation before the end of December 2024.

This month, a Coffee County Grand Jury indicted nearly 35 individuals on felony charges. The charges include drug offenses, with one person facing trafficking charges, and four individuals charged with aggravated assault. Last week, two individuals from Coffee County were charged with trafficking methamphetamine following a search at a residence on Willacoochee Highway. On August 13, detectives with the Coffee County Drug Unit conducted an operation involving Charles Black, which led to a search of his residence on Willacoochee Highway. According to the report, Black left his residence before the warrant was served and was subsequently detained.
Georgia Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing More than 60 Firearms from Pawn Shop
Officials with the Middle District of Georgia recently announced that Rontavious Jamal Jackson, a 33-year-old from Cordele, Georgia, has admitted guilt to the charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon after his involvement in a burglary where 62 firearms were stolen from a Macon pawn shop in 2023. Jackson faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, along with three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Douglas Man and Woman Arrested Following Drug Bust and Search at Apartment
A man out on probation for drug charges less than a year ago and a woman from Douglas were recently arrested following a search at a local apartment. On August 7, 2024, at around 1:00 PM, Detectives from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit were conducting a proactive narcotics patrol in Douglas. During their patrol, a detective spotted 30-year-old Christopher Lamar Hawkins, who had outstanding warrants for fleeing police and methamphetamine possession, driving a white 2021 Kia Sorento. Hawkins was stopped in front of apartment 203/204 on N Wheeler Ave, where two detectives approached him. Breanna Henderson, 33, then came out of apartment 203 to "investigate what was going on with Hawkins" and appeared to whisper with Hawkins during his arrest. The report states that Henderson, who temporarily lived with Hawkins, began whispering with him "presumably about nefarious activities due to Hawkins's previous history with drug distribution and evading law enforcement."
