A traffic stop conducted by the Coffee County Drug Unit (CCDU) recently led to the arrest of a 23-year-old woman from Nicholls.

According to a CCDU preliminary report, on July 23, detectives were conducting a proactive narcotics patrol in the area of Highway 135 and Old Pearson Highway when they observed a silver Cadillac CTS traveling towards Douglas. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane, crossing over the center line, which led to the traffic stop.

During the stop, detectives had probable cause to search the car and its occupants.

In the course of the search, detectives discovered a small quantity of suspected Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, a Schedule II narcotic.

One of the occupants, Alexa Austin, was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Upon arrival, Austin admitted to detectives that she was also in possession of a glass pipe.

Following further investigation, Austin was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a drug-related object.

Documents filed in the Superior Court of Coffee County reveal that Austin was on probation at the time of her arrest due to prior offenses. She had been arrested in December 2020 for possession of methamphetamine and later charged with possession of a drug-related object and methamphetamine in August 2021. In January 2022, she pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced to three years of probation, with the other charge being dismissed.

According to the Coffee County Jail roster, Austin remains in custody.
