The chances for the tropical wave in the Atlantic developing have now risen to 80% over the next seven days. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has advised that this disturbance could become the next tropical storm or hurricane within the coming days, potentially targeting the U.S. East Coast.
According to the NHC, shower and thunderstorm activity continues to increase in association with the tropical wave currently located roughly midway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles.

“Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system during the next several days as it moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the central tropical Atlantic,” NHC officials stated.

Meteorologists are forecasting that a tropical depression is likely to form by early to mid-next week as the system approaches and then moves near or over the Lesser Antilles. Residents in these areas should closely monitor the progress of this system.

The chances of formation over the next 48 hours are at 40%. The peak of hurricane season is September 10, and it will run through November 30.
