The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged former Soperton Police Department officer Kenneth Bishop, 60, of Swainsboro, Georgia, with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of terroristic threats and acts.

The charges stem from an incident on July 26, 2024, when Bishop was still employed as an officer with the Soperton Police Department. According to the GBI's investigation, Bishop was dispatched in response to a call about an assault. During his initial investigation, Bishop stopped a vehicle occupied by three individuals who were relatives and friends of the assault victim. The situation escalated into a heated argument between Bishop and the vehicle's occupants. During the altercation, Bishop allegedly drew his gun, pointed it at the occupants, and threatened to shoot while striking the car windows.

Following the incident, the Soperton Police Department requested the GBI to investigate the matter on July 31, 2024. After a thorough investigation, the GBI arrested Bishop on August 19, 2024. He was booked into the Treutlen County Jail.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. The GBI urges anyone with information regarding the incident to contact their regional investigative office in Eastman at 478-374-6988. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), visiting the GBI’s website at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or using the "See Something, Send Something" mobile app.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be handed over to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
