đŸ•”I spy a James Bond party in Leesburg #weekend

    🙌Good Friday to you all!

It's a grand weekend for grand openings. Marmadukes Lodge celebrates its grand opening tonight, May 17, starting at 7 p.m. The first 100 people in the door will receive a free well drink or bear every day for a year.

For something more subdued, the Two Old Hags Wine Shoppe will feature live music from 5 to 8 p.m.

Or, catch Melon Patch Players' "One Man, Two Guvnors," a fun show set in 1963 England, with a live band that has music but your typical musical. You'll have to see the show at 311 N 13th St. to get why they say that. Details: melonpatchplayers.org .

Leesburg is more than an ocean away from Monte Carlo, but the city's chamber hopes to re-create the glitz and the glam of a James Bond casino scene at its Casino Royale soiree tonight.

The Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to get gussied up in your best Bond-style attire to participate in a Battle of the Bonds at the Venetian Center.

The scary, the creepy and the hilarious converge at the Lake County Oddities Marketplace at the fairgrounds. The next event will take place next week on Friday, May 24 .

Matt Gray, the bizarre bazaar’s founder and organizer, shared that around an average of 2,500 people buy Oddities’ weird and wild goods at his markets. Daily Commercial caught up with him a while back, and here's a few interesting tidbits we found out about this unique entrepreneur.

Question: What motivated you to create a marketplace from the macabre?

Gray : “I wanted to create an outlet where you could find that kind of cool, spooky macabre item, gothic horror, what have you, year-round, so you didn’t have to wait till October to get that Frankenstein piece for your house or a taxidermy butterfly or what have you.”

Do you have any other business ventures?

"I opened the Ocala Oddities Shoppe last June at 1525 NE 8th Ave. My daughter Isabella is the shop’s manager."

What did you do before running the Oddities markets?

"I was a DJ and emcee, entertaining crowds at special events and weddings. I started out as a teenager, spinning tunes at the Skate Mania roller rink."

Read more about the Lake County Oddities Marketplace in the Daily Commercial next week.
