    šŸ’›Tuesday greetings,

It's a fateful week for some high-profile individuals. The Iranian president died in a helicopter crash under investigation. Julian Assange is delaying his extradition a little longer. The Wiki Leaks founder won the right to challenge a British court's decision to extradite him to the U.S. to face espionage charges, extending a yearslong legal battle that pitted U.S. and British authorities against the Australian national and free speech campaigners. Find out more about it in USA Today.

šŸ§±Another brick from the wall ...

A sad moment in Leesburg history offers a fun twist for history lovers and the nostalgic.

Frank Stivender, the museum's director, said that anyone who wants to can claim a brick from the abandoned school on the National Registry of Historic Places. Built in 1915, the school has been in disrepair since 2003 and has been deemed by developers and city planners as too costly to repair.

Said Stivender: "John O'Kelley, who's on our board of directors (and belongs to the Leesburg planning commission), is a contractor and was able to go on the site and get the cornerstone and other items out of the Lee School."

    Hi Julie,

Applications are now open for Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumterā€™s homeownership program for 11 new homes being built throughout Lake and Sumter counties. Applications will close on Friday, May 24.

Me: Thanks, Lacie! Where will the homes be available?

Lacie: The location of the homes will be scattered throughout Lake and Sumter, including the cities of Tavares, Coleman, Bushnell, and Oxford. To learn more, visit HabitatLS.org and select the apply button. Readers inquiring about the program can also call 352-483-0434, ext. 117
