MOUNT DORA A free, on-demand electric shuttle service, accessible with the Freebee app , will address parking frustrations in Mount Dora starting Friday, Oct. 4.

The eco-friendly service will operate from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday and will be powered by two electric vehicles.

According to the city, the service aims to reduce traffic congestion and free up parking spaces by providing an accessible alternative to driving to the closest spot to a downtown destination.

With the new app, residents and visitors can park in any of the city’s designated surface lots and use Freebee to navigate downtown without the need to drive around looking for parking spaces.

The new ride service, the city says, supports local businesses by making it easier for people to reach them without the hassle of finding parking.

Mount Dora Mayor Crissy Stile says she's thrilled about Freebee.

“As our downtown continues to grow and thrive, we’ve listened to the concerns of residents and business owners about the challenges of parking," she said in her press statement.

"This shuttle is an important step toward making downtown more welcoming and easier to navigate, ensuring that visitors and locals alike can enjoy our businesses, restaurants, and events without the stress of finding parking.”

Rides can be requested to and from designated lots through the Ride Freebee app, available for download on iOS and Android devices.

Those who don't use cellphones or need ADA accommodations and would like to use the service can call 855-918-3733 for assistance.

The city will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 3, in Sunset Park, 240 W. Fourth Ave.
